Insight about current trends in affiliate marketing in 2019 – short & to the point
Whether you’re a beginner or an established professional, there’s always something to learn from other experts in your field. So what do affiliates pay closer attention to 2019?
To answer this question, iqoption marketing team analyzed the latest trends in affiliate marketing and picked out 5 approaches that are becoming increasingly popular.
1. Taking matters into your own hands
More affiliates are switching from paid advertising to building their own online presence.
There are two reasons for this:
- paid advertising is not as effective as it once was — CTR for ads on Google Search decreased by 67.5%, as reported by AdStage
- stricter ad policies from Google and Facebook.
It’s no surprise that personal traffic sources, such as websites and blogs (and in some cases, doorways), are becoming more favorable — in the world of web, they’re an equivalent of your own place. If you don’t have one, you can “rent” an ad space from ad networks, which is essentially what paid advertising is. The cons of such alternative? It relies on your budget and requires you to follow the landlord’s rules. Given the updated ad policies, there is a higher risk of getting evicted (i.e. blocked by the ad networks), so for many affiliates, paid advertising is no longer an option.
Websites, in contrast, allow you to create a permanent abode, where you can store all your content and modify it however you want. And the more value your content offers (be it tutorials, reviews or other helpful information), the more visitors you can attract. More importantly, this traffic will be organic, and that’s the one that lasts.
Building and promoting your website can take a while, so use additional marketing channels, such as newsletters, social media pages and ads, to speed things up and increase conversion.
2. Going mobile
The global mobile industry has surpassed 5 billion unique subscribers and publishers are embracing this opportunity to attract mobile users.
While optimizing websites for mobile devices is a good start, a growing number of affiliates are looking beyond screen resolutions. To drive organic traffic and improve retention, they are developing a separate source — their own apps that serve as an extension of their brand.
According to Statista, the number of mobile app downloads increases each year, so we can expect to see more affiliates incorporating mobile marketing into their strategy.
3. Content marketing takes the lead once again.
The majority of marketers surveyed by Smart Insights projected that content marketing would be the most effective digital marketing technique in 2018. In 2019, content is still their first choice.
So what can affiliate marketer can make of it? First of all, content marketing is working. Secondly, it’s a consistent trend that’s believed to continue in the future. And finally, marketers are already investing their resources into content development, so it’s definitely an activity worth looking into.
It may seem that the Internet is oversaturated with information, but keep in mind that most of it gets outdated quickly. To stand out and become a recognized professional in your niche, make sure to publish the most relevant content for your audience. 4. Video speaks louder than words
Video has always been one of the most engaging forms of content, but did you know that it’s also a promising marketing channel?
Let’s look at some findings:
- Over 90% of people say they discover new brands or products on YouTube (Google)
- 70% of marketing professionals report video converts better than any other mediums (Renderforest)
- Short-form video is the best performing content format (Altimeter)
- 84% of marketers say video has helped them increase traffic to their website (Wyzolw)
- Video traffic will make up 82% of all internet traffic by 2022 (Cisco)
As video marketing is set to become even bigger in 2019, now is a good time to jump on the bandwagon and start incorporating some type of video content (such as vlogs, live streams, product reviews, Q&A, behind-the-scenes or webinars) into your strategy.
5. Financial vertical continues to deliver
Living up to its “evergreen” title, the financial industry remains one of the most profitable niches for affiliates. It includes financial products such as options (binary, digital, FX), Forex, stocks, cryptocurrencies as well as other sub-niches: insurance, employment, and loans.
The reason affiliates choose to work with financial offers is the ongoing demand from prospects. A lot of people are already in a buying mode when they are searching for these products, so all they need is a little push in the right direction. Your website, app or an ad can be a deciding factor in their journey.
To convince visitors to register by your affiliate links and start trading, make sure to provide enough context: describe the product you’re promoting and how to use it, explain why it can bring value for the prospect, and tell them where the affiliate link will take them. Crafty marketing tactics may earn you the clicks, but being transparent and helpful will bring you higher conversion rates.
